As the world grapples with the urgent need to address climate change, the voluntary carbon market has emerged as a crucial tool for companies seeking to achieve their climate targets. And when it comes to carbon credit buyers investing in regenerative agriculture, the benefits extend far beyond just carbon reductions and removals. But while the scale of opportunity has been clear to many, much-needed funding, commitment and regulation have lagged, causing delays, frustration and skepticism to grow.
Against this challenging backdrop, Agreena has persevered, securing a historic win for the VCM. Our soil carbon project, the AgreenaCarbon Project, has officially become the first agricultural cropland project to achieve registration under Verra's VM0042 methodology. This game-changing milestone has cemented Agreena as a global leader in high-integrity climate solutions, and opened a new chapter for the voluntary carbon market, giving companies the opportunity to invest in a European nature-based project that meets the world's leading Verra standard. By supporting farmers who prioritise soil health, companies can not only sequester carbon, but also contribute to building a more resilient food system that benefits people, planet, and profit.

The power of Verra registration
Verra's VM0042 methodology is the world’s most widely used greenhouse gas crediting standard for carbon credits, ensuring that projects like Agreena's meet rigorous criteria for environmental integrity, social responsibility, and economic viability. It takes years for projects to be validated by Verra-approved VVBs (Validation and Verification Bodies) such as Earthood, due to the complexity of ensuring the highest levels of confidence in the science, calculations and processes of each project. By achieving Verra registration, the AgreenaCarbon Project has successfully demonstrated that it produces high-quality carbon credits that deliver real climate impact. This milestone not only boosts the credibility of our project but also provides our customers with the assurance they need to invest in a high-integrity climate solution.

The impact of Agreena's soil carbon project
Agreena is actively working with farmers across 4.5 million hectares of European farmland in their transition to regenerative agriculture, making a tangible, visible impact on the environment. By investing in our carbon credits, companies can not only achieve their climate targets but also contribute to a more sustainable food system, supporting the farmers at the forefront of the movement.
Healthy soils are the unsung heroes of our food system, storing carbon, filtering water, boosting biodiversity, and producing nutritious food. They're our first line of defence against climate volatility, providing a natural buffer against extreme weather events and market fluctuations. And they're a critical bridge to a more sustainable food system, one that's better equipped to feed a growing global population while minimising its environmental footprint.
The best part? This solution is not a distant promise, but a proven reality. Regenerative agriculture is already being practiced by farmers around the world, and the results are tangible. By investing in soil carbon credits, companies are not only able to achieve their climate goals, but also support a movement that's transforming the way we produce, consume, and think about food. And when a company buys Agreena soil carbon credits, they’re not funding intangible, future removals or reductions - they’re purchasing a verified climate impact that’s already been achieved.
Our leading in-house dMRV technologies ensure that every credit is backed by robust data and monitoring, providing unparalleled transparency and accountability. From advanced field boundary detection to baseline and additionality verification models, our team of experts have trained cutting-edge machine learning models to work with imagery from satellites, data from governments and farmers, and ground truth data collected in-situ, enabling high-quality, high-confidence outcomes across our suite of soil carbon solutions. These unique capabilities enable us to provide companies, banks and agri-supply chain players with the data they need to evidence their climate action, supporting them with bespoke documentation and unparalleled granularity.

If you’ve read this far, you're likely no stranger to the importance of reducing carbon emissions and mitigating the impacts of climate change. You’ll know that while climate skeptics are grabbing headlines, the effects of climate change are becoming more tangible on a daily basis. From uncontrollable wildfires in LA, to flash flooding in Valencia, the deadly effects of our planet’s decline are having a vicious impact. But while 2024 marked the first year in which the global average temperature exceeded the 1.5C Paris Agreement maximum, all is not lost. With the support of governments and regulatory bodies, companies have the power to enact real, measurable, climate action. Capitalising on the momentum of AgreenaCarbon’s historic registration by Verra, companies now have the opportunity to invest in regenerative agriculture, with the assurance of its quality and integrity as a crucial tool in climate change mitigation.
Agreena has produced the first agricultural cropland project to be registered by Verra’s VM0042 methodology. It is a landmark achievement that is testament to the whole team’s dedication to delivering high-integrity climate solutions, and I am incredibly proud of the years of hard work that everyone at Agreena has put in to achieve this milestone.
I invite you to join us in making a meaningful impact on the climate — invest in soil carbon credits today and be part of a movement that's changing the face of agriculture forever.
