Agreena awarded BeZero Carbon Rating of BBB for its carbon project, placing it among the highest-rated soil carbon projects

  • Independent rating places the AgreenaCarbon Project among the top five ex post BeZero-rated projects in the soil-related agricultural practices category

  • News comes as 79% of companies now seek projects with a BBB BeZero Carbon Rating or higher

Copenhagen, Denmark; 22 July 2026: Agreena’s flagship soil carbon programme, the AgreenaCarbon Project (VCS 4022), has been awarded a BBB ex post BeZero Carbon Rating following its September 2025 issuance under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard, giving corporate voluntary carbon market (VCM) buyers an independent, evidence-based view of the quality and integrity of its issued credits.

This confirms the project's ex ante BBB rating from February 2025, meaning delivery has tracked projections - a meaningful signal in a market where many rated projects are still pre-issuance.

The BeZero Carbon Rating represents BeZero Carbon's current opinion on the likelihood that carbon credits issued by a project achieve a tonne of CO₂e avoided or removed. A BBB rating positions the AgreenaCarbon Project among the top five of all ex post BeZero-rated projects in the soil-related agricultural practices category. In reflecting verified project data, following registration and verification under Verra's VCS using methodology VM0042 and issuance of its first Verified Carbon Units in September 2025, the AgreenaCarbon Project’s ex post rating is true and tested.

The BeZero Carbon Rating uses an eight-point scale (AAA to D) to assess the likelihood that a carbon project's issued credits achieve real, verifiable climate impact. Unlike BeZero's ex ante rating assigned to the AgreenaCarbon Project in February 2025, also a BBB.pre with low project execution risk - which assesses forecasted risk before credits are issued - the BeZero Carbon Rating is based on realised project performance, verified monitoring data, and actual issued credits, reviewed by BeZero's rating committee.

Independent assessments like this matter more than ever. According to Patch’s Hidden State of the Voluntary Carbon Market report, 79% of companies now seek carbon projects with a BBB BeZero Carbon rating or higher, making this rating an important benchmark for corporate carbon credit buyers.

Soil carbon projects like the AgreenaCarbon Project deliver climate impact alongside a range of additional co-benefits, including improved soil health, enhanced biodiversity, and diversified income for the farmers who deliver them. As the market matures, independent ratings like this help buyers evaluate carbon credits not only on tonnes removed, but on the broader value nature-based solutions provide.

“This independent rating highlights the strength of the AgreenaCarbon Project’s delivery,” said Frederik Aagaard, Chief Commercial Officer at Agreena. “By providing external, evidence-based validation of our issued credits, it gives stakeholders confidence in the quality of the climate impact we're already delivering. We've built the programme to generate real, verifiable climate impact, and this recognition reinforces that.”

The AgreenaCarbon Project was first awarded a BBB.pre BeZero Carbon ex ante Rating with low project execution risk in February 2025, ahead of its registration and verification under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard using methodology VM0042, independently audited by IME and Earthhood. Since then, the project has issued 2.3 million Verified Carbon Units across 1.6 million hectares of European regenerative farmland. This new BBB ex post rating reflects that realised track record - grounded in verified monitoring data and actual project performance, rather than pre-issuance forecasts.

The AgreenaCarbon Project was assigned a BeZero Carbon Rating of BBB on 20 July 2026. For the live rating, please visit: https://bezerocarbon.com/ratings/listings.
