Help accelerate the green transition in the agricultural industry

"By managing soil to store higher levels of carbon, farmers and land managers can play a critical role in achieving net zero. To make this viable from a farm livelihood perspective, there need to be financial incentives at scale that pay farmers to sequester carbon."

Regenerative Farming and Co-Benefits

Regenerative farming is a farming system building on several different parameters and practices, such as minimum disturbance, use of cover crops and active crop rotation, use of organic fertilization, healthy residue management, and decreased fuel usage.

All in all, these practices help grow healthier crops while sequestering and storing atmospheric carbon. Additional benefits are improved water infiltration and holding capacity, increased biodiversity, and higher resilience towards erosive effects of wind and water.

Agreena Farmers are part of a growing cohort within the Agricultural community focused on improving soil health, biodiversity and overall resilience to pests and climate changes. The farmer’s intentions for joining AgreenaCarbon are often rooted in their faith in the new system and the co-benefits that the practices provide for their farming operations.

Meet some of our Carbon Farmers

Nicolai Oxholm TillischRosenfeldt

“After switching to reduced tillage, we have seen a clear strengthening of our soil quality, and it has become more cultivable. In addition, we have also significantly reduced our fuel consumption and just by not plowing, we save approximately 60 EUR per hectare.”

Hans DamgaardJD Agro Cocora Farm

“One thing is that we have less overpasses, but most importantly, we reduce the evaporation of moisture from the soil, and that leaves more water for the plants, which is extremely important under these dry conditions we experience from time to time.”

Søren IlsøeKnudstrupgaard

“When learning how to refrain from tilling the soil every single year, a whole new world opens. Biology can replace diesel and steel, and as an added benefit you will have more beneficial insects, vipers, larks and partridges.”

Trust and transparency is at thecore of every sustainable solution

Our methodology and quantification of greenhouse gases complies with the IPCC guidelines by the UN, and we use the industry standard tool Cool Farm Tool for specific greenhouse gas calculations.

We validate and quality assure all data in our program – both directly by visiting farms and through algorithmic analysis & satellite technology. In addition to this, the program and all carbon certificates are verified by the international accredited registrar and classification society DNV.

Agreena Buyer Policy

In Agreena, we recognize that we have a responsibility to ensure that our certificates will count towards a total reduction of emissions and not just a restructure. This is why when a company wishes to buy certificates from the AgreenaCarbon programme to use for offsetting, the company must have a pathway towards reduction or elimination of their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. Each company working with us should comply with at least one of the below:

  • A communicated emissions reduction target.
  • A plan for how to reduce their emissions going forward.
  • An already proven emission reduction statement.
  • A public stated net zero target year.
  • A calculation of their own emissions (Ideally to scope 1,2 and 3 level)

It is important to stress that we recommend carbon certificates are not a quick fix and should be used in combination with emission reduction strategies. Carbon certificates should be used to compensate for unavoidable emissions.
